Gujarat vs Chennai on May 23

Courtesy of winning ten out of 14 matches in the league stage, defending champions Gujarat Titans finished at the top of the Indian Premier League 2023 points table. On the other hand, after finishing ninth last year, MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings made a brilliant comeback in the league this time around, finishing second on the charts. Next up, both these teams will face each other on May 23, as the winner will qualify for the finals while the losing team will have to play the second qualifier to get to the summit clash. Interestingly, the four-time champions Chennai have never beaten GT in the history of the competition. However, MS Dhoni is considered to be a maestro of this format and thus, it will be interesting to see Dhoni’s tactics in the upcoming game. Meanwhile, he should also be aware of Shubman Gill, who managed to hit two back-to-back centuries in the ongoing competition. On top of that, Mohammed Shami and Rashid Khan are in brilliant form with the ball as well. Thus, CSK might find it difficult as Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devon Conway, and Shivam Dube will have to take a lot of responsibility with the bat.

Best economical pick – Matheesha Pathirana has taken 15 wickets in ten games this season at an average of 19.32, an economy of 7.56, and a strike rate of 15.33. He has been really effective in death overs and has taken a total of 14 wickets at an economy of 7.85.

Top captains & vice captains  Shubman Gill has made centuries in his last two outings and has been in great form. Gill is the second-highest run-scorer this season and has made 680 runs in 14 games at an average of 56.66 and a strike rate of 152.46. Ruturaj Gaikwad made his third half-century of the season in the last game against the Delhi Capitals. He has scored 504 runs in 13 innings at an average of 42 and a strike rate of 148.23.

Smart pick – Since the spinners are expected to get some help from the surface, Rashid Khan can prove to be really dangerous in the middle. So far, the Afghan spin wizard has picked up 24 wickets in the tournament and with that, he is second in the IPL Purple Cap race.

Cautious Pick – Ambati Rayudu has scored just 122 runs in ten innings this season and can be avoided for this game.

My XI – Shubman Gill (Captain), Ruturaj Gaikwad (Vice-Captain), Matheesha Pathirana, Rashid Khan, Devon Conway, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Hardik Pandya, David Miller, Wridhiman Saha, MS Dhoni
