Punjab vs Bengaluru on May 9

In a must-win game in the IPL 2024, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will be up against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in what happens to be a thrilling encounter to look forward to. The 58th match of the season has a lot of consequences in terms of the chances of both teams qualifying for the playoffs. The team that loses might be down and out as other teams would progress further in the race to playoffs. The team winning would stay alive in the race for the playoffs. Both teams have their own strengths and weaknesses. While PBKS is not getting enough contribution with the bat from the likes of Rilee Rossouw, Sam Curran, and Jitesh Sharma, RCB has the likes of Cameron Green and Glenn Maxwell, who have not fired with the bat as well as they would have liked. The winner of the match will secure 7th spot in the points table. But their chances of qualifying for the playoffs will stay alive. A loss would be a tough pill to swallow.

Best economical pick Harpreet Brar has a good record against RCB. The left-arm orthodox spinner can take wickets of the best batters in the world. He can also come lower down the order and add some runs as a batter. The emerging player would be hoping to give his best for the 2014 runner-ups.

Top captains & vice captains – Bengaluru’s Virat Kohli could be the best batter in the upcoming game against Punjab Kings. With 542 runs in his last 11 matches, Kohli is one of the best performers in the tournament, and is the current Orange Cap holder, leading the run scorer charts. Faf Du Plessis has been in good touch too. The RCB skipper scored a brisk fifty in the last game against GT and took the game away from the visiting side in a matter of few overs. The RCB opener has been on a roll in the last few games and it could not be any different against PBKS.

Smart pick Will Jacks is someone who can the game away from the opponents in a matter of few overs. The aggressive batter can take down the bowlers and demoralize them. Additionally, he can bowl a couple of overs and claim wickets whilst being economical.

Cautious Pick Rilee Rossouw has been woefully out of form this season. In 5 innings, the Southpaw has just 79 runs to his name with a best score of 45. In 4 games, he has had a negative impact on the side. Against RCB, he is very difficult to be trusted given his form.

My XI – Virat Kohli (Captain), Faf du Plessis (Vice-Captain), Harpreet Brar, Will Jacks, Dinesh Karthik, Jonny Bairstow, Prabhsimran Singh, Sam Curran, Shashank Singh, Cameron Green, Glenn Maxwell
